In 2018, as an institutional initiative, the Kimmel Center began exploring ways to transform its lobby into a more engaging event space for the public. Throughout the year, they hosted two different interactive art installations, which became known as Swing at the Kimmel and Los Trompos.

Overview

Swing at the Kimmel was a virtual reality (VR) swing experience created by Thrill Laboratory in the UK. Participants would wear a VR helmet while physically swinging, immersing themselves in a digital world.

Overview

Los Trompos draws its inspiration from the form of a spinning top, a popular toy enjoyed by children around the world. The brightly hued surfaces of these tops are created using fabric woven in a traditional style by Mexican artisans in Mexico City.
